It is very easy to see ourselves as victims of circumstances, especially at the moment when there are so many events happening outside of our control. Global Pandemics, national and local government responses, global shifts in perceptions caused by black lives matter, sabre rattling between USA and China, natural disasters and wars are all causing misery and shockwaves throughout the globe.
We can not always control our experiences, but we can control our responses to those experiences. As Paul McGee says in his book SUMO, E+R = O or the Event plus your Reaction will lead to the Outcome.
Let’s concentrate on the outcome you want to achieve. This could be on a micro level or it could be on a lifechanging level. These are your goals. They will be shaped by your vision made up of your values, your purpose, and your envisaged future
We at ActionCOACH Oakham have a vision for our business; knowing what we want to achieve in 4 years’ time, is scary, exhilarating, and empowering. It helps us to navigate the choices we need to make in the here and now and gives us a framework to work within.
Our values give us a benchmark to evaluate our options. Being clear on these means we can discount any decision that may not be congruent to our values. One of our core values is Respect for others and we would very quickly rule out any action that would run contrary to that.
We have our long-term goal, that hasn’t changed because of the Covid-19 crisis. We still want to be the best Business Coaching Business in the East Midlands. However, our 2020 goals have had to change, we have reengineered and reshaped them over the last three months. They are a changing entity, responding to events as they unfold. Driven by our ultimate vision of all business owners having someone they can trust to help them and their business reach the fullest expression of their potential, all our goals have the same direction – although sometimes they seem like they are going off at a tangent.
