If you’ve never heard of OKR, it is a concept that was created by Andy Grove when he was the CEO for Intel during the 70s. It’s a basic framework, but it plays a crucial role in an organisations purpose and vision, it’s also a tool we use during coaching.
So why do we use it, well we know it’s a proven method. Here’s a bit of history for you…
Using OKR Andy improved the MBO (Management By Objectives) model at Intel. John Doerr who also joined Intel, learned of this methodology and in 1999 presented it to the founders of Google. Google started using OKRs and the methodology helped the company’s explosive growth and the reason it has become the company it is today.
OKR helps business owners focus on:
- Alignment
- Autonomy
- Accountability
- Empowerment
- Transparent communication
What OKR is great for is providing the links between the company’s objectives and its day-to-day activities. Following this method achieves a more productive work environment, and thus a more successful business.
