What have been your biggest challenges?
My biggest challenge has been letting go. I have to admit that I’m a bit of a control freak and letting go of some control so that we can grow as a business has been difficult for me personally.
Taking time to work ON the business and not IN the business is so important if you want to grow and develop. This means building a good team around you that you can trust.
What advice would you give to other women in business?
Remember to take time for yourself away from the business. It’s so easy when you’re building and running your own company to spend every waking moment in it.
Taking time out regularly is really important. As I work most weekends in motorsport, I ended up working 7 days a week so I made the decision to start taking Mondays off to have some ‘me time’ and that usually means I’m far more productive during the rest of the week.
It’s also really important to spend time working on the business if you want to move forward and that means bringing in key people that you can trust – and delegate to!
What does the future hold for you?
The future is to continue developing both sides of the business. I want Sarah Franklin Solicitors to be the ‘go to’ legal practice for all things family, wills, and probate related, to double the amount of fee earners, and for all of them to be also be offering pro bono work for a percentage of their working week.
With Motorsport Legal, the aim is to continue building this and to work with larger teams and become their integral legal team throughout the year.
Away from the office, I plan to increase my motivational speaking and grow the driver management side of things, and, of course, do more racing myself!

Sarah Franklin Solicitors offer a fixed fee first interview to give a bit of initial advice about Divorce/separation, Wills, Probate, and Powers of Attorney.
Motorsport Legal offer contract negotiation and preparation, disputes, on-call service for racing weekends, representation in MSUK National Court appeals, and disciplinary and investigatory hearings.
I also offer Motivational Speaking and Driver Management.

What have been your biggest challenges?
Balancing a full-time demanding career and my family, finding staff with the skill set required in international trade and realising I must work on and not in the business!
What has been your biggest learning along your journey?
Freeing myself of the belief that no one else can do the job as well as I can, and accepting that’s ok so long as it is good enough.
What does the future of your business hold?
Following a digital transformation of the business, we are now in a phase of high growth with a goal to 10X the business. Exciting (and very busy) times for the whole team.
